That’s right folks, welcome to the last full week of May and the final ten days of the Bike More Challenge. Big shout-out to everyone who has been cycling in the challenge, and especially to those who are participating for the first time this year!
Last week saw two more LifeBalance staff members – Nicole and Bill – join the cycling team, for a total of 7 of 9 staff members participating. Nicole bravely waged a battle against a horde of baby spiders in order to win her bike back and take it for spin. This is her first time participating in the Bike More Challenge! Woohooo!!
Team LifeBalance is keeping up the pace, having logged 64 miles this past week. For comparison, we logged 43 miles in week 2, and 77 miles in week 1. The 184 total miles the team has logged is roughly the distance from the LifeBalance office to LifeBalance vendor MoPOP in Seattle (where, of course, LifeBalance members save on admission).
The team is currently maintaining its week-over-week position in 56th place among Oregon companies with 7-19 staff, though this position fluctuates day-to-day. LifeBalance vendor Fulcrum Fitness has pulled ahead in this same bracket, to 24th place. Further down the bracket, in 92nd place is LifeBalance vendor Paul’s Bicycle Way Of Life. Just one employee is participating, but that one cyclist has logged 337 miles. That’s nearly twice the distance our team has collectively logged! We’re very impressed!
The weather this week here in Portland (and across the west coast) is sun, sun, sun! It’s a great opportunity to get the bike out for some extra miles, especially if you’ve been thinking about doing a bike commute to work, or a fun ride with the family.
Cycling Tip of the Week: Whether you’re riding with the kids, or commuting to work, Google Maps can automatically plan a safe and suitable bike route for you! After you’ve set the map to the cycling overlay (found in Maps’ menu), Google Maps will show you details like bike-only paths (dark green), bike lanes on roads (light green), and roads suitable for cycling (dotted green).
