It is officially the middle of May, and the halfway point of the Bike More Challenge. Here’s a shout-out to all of the riders who have been participating in this challenge! We thought we’d share an update about how Team LifeBalance stands after the first 15 days:
LifeBalance currently has 5 out of 9 staff members participating in the challenge – one more than we had at the end of the Challenge last year. This is a big milestone! Shoutout to teammates Erin and Paul, who are participating in the Challenge for the first time this year!
Together the team has logged 120 miles, or roughly the distance between the LifeBalance office and the Washington state capitol in Olympia, WA. The team is sitting at 56th place for companies with 7-19 employees – right on the heels of cool cycling headwear-makers, Nutcase Helmets. Major props to LifeBalance vendor Fulcrum Fitness, which is currently in 33rd place in our bracket!
One of the wonderful aspects of the Bike More Challenge is its accessibility. Team LifeBalance is composed of both experienced riders and folks who don’t cycle much throughout the rest of the year. You don’t have to be a die-hard cyclist to participate in or benefit from this challenge – everyone is welcome!
The majority of Team LifeBalance’s 31 total bike trips are not commutes, and that’s just fine! Bike More Challenge points are earned from cycling anywhere outside, not just on commutes. The Challenge is designed this way to highlight the many ways and reasons we have to ride bikes. Whether it’s for exercise, as a social or family activity, to warm up on your way to the gym, to avoid the difficulty of parking in your favorite shopping areas (increasingly difficult here in Portland), or simply because it’s sunny outside, your ride counts!
Light rain in Portland over the next few days will give way to glorious sunshine and higher temperatures starting Thursday. No matter where you live, you can use localized weather data to dodge unpleasant weather in your area and maximize fun!
Cycling tip of the week: Keeping your tires properly inflated will give you a better ride while decreasing your risk of getting a flat. Look on the side of your tire for the recommended psi (pounds per square inch). Check out REI’s flat tire guide for details.
